Show Notes Transcript

What if God was a tangible, living presence in your life, guiding and providing even in the toughest times? Have you ever considered that the Almighty might be more involved in your daily existence than you realize? In the latest episode of Scripture Time, I draw back the curtain on my early years, sharing how faith in God shaped every aspect of my life, from a poverty-stricken childhood to an empowering journey towards financial stability.

In this heartfelt narration, you'll discover how God's grace coloured everything from a fatherless household, government assistance, latchkey kid experiences, to a financial blessing . I will recount the life-altering moment when I felt God's protective hand in real-time after surviving a car accident, a moment that sowed the seeds of salvation in my heart, leading to the acceptance of Jesus as my savior at the tender age of twelve. The story doesn't end there though. Join us as we walk the journey of our family stepping away from welfare and into financial stability, guided by faith. So tune in and find the inspiration you need from the ever-present God who is a part of your life, even if you're not aware of it.

Speaker 1:

Hello, my friends, and welcome to scripture time to feed your soul. As I mentioned in the last episode of my story, which is that the presence of God seems to have alleviated the overall burden of poverty. Although I would not have been aware of that back then as a child, god was the same God that I had decided to believe in at 12 years old and somehow the God that I really didn't know provided for me and my family. The scriptures refer to him as Jehovah Jireh, meaning the Lord, god provides. Once we moved out of the relatives house, my mother found a tiny apartment for us to live. It became a place to call home for many years. I would have been about four years old when we moved into this apartment. From what I can vaguely recall, the apartment was old, dingy and maybe ugly, but that was before my mother made it into a warm and cozy dwelling place Back in the day.

Speaker 1:

Back then, some children were called latchkey kids. These children would have their own door key to let them into the house after school when their parents were not home. These children would usually be home alone until a parent came home from working all day. I was a latchkey kid early in life. I can recall my mother teaching me how to use a door key at five years old. Before government school lunch programs began, the students had to come home for lunch break, for lunch, have lunch and then go back to school. Mom would attach the door key to my clothing. She would be at work when I would come home from school and let myself into the house. Every day she would have a lunch prepared for me on the kitchen table. I would eat my lunch, clean up, use the bathroom and then leave home to return to school again, as I would lock the door behind me.

Speaker 1:

Nothing could have gone very wrong and I could have been in danger. But here's what's amazing Nothing ever happened. This was another way that the God, who I did not know at the time, blessed us All. Praises to the God who continued to guide my family out of the pit of poverty and despair. My mother had come from a family line of believers in Christ, so as a single parent, she ruled with the Bible. She would say the Bible says this and the Bible says that One of her grandparents was a missionary and another grandparent was a preacher. Mom was quite a missionary herself, at least to me. She gave me my first Bible when I was only five years old. I didn't really read it much, but I was captivated by the beautifully illustrated pictures.

Speaker 1:

At eight or nine years old, I was struck by a car while on my way to a neighborhood library. When the car hit me, I fell to the ground and the driver veered off the road onto the tree lawn. I was taken to the emergency. There was talk that if the driver had not veered off away from me, my injuries could have been more serious, possibly fatal. I suffered minor scrapes and a busted lip.

Speaker 1:

The Bible says that God is ever present in our time of need. Although I don't recall all the details surrounding the accident, I do recall my mother saying Honey, god spared your life, and those words stayed with me, as I believe the seed of salvation was sown into my heart. From that day forward, I began to know God and love God as my lifesaver. At 12 years old, I had been attending a church where I made the decision to put my trust in Jesus and receive Him as my personal savior from sin. But he would not become my Lord until many years later, the year of my 12th birthday.

Speaker 1:

God, my lifesaver, led my family to the door of financial stability. So we said goodbye and we closed the door to the welfare system. My mother was able to gain full-time employment at a nearby house pit. The wages and the benefits seemed adequate enough to support a family of three. Scripture tells us that all good and perfect gifts come from God. Above James 1.17. Although my mom was not highly educated, she had a gift for managing her finances. Her philosophy was it's not about how much money you make, but what you make of it.

Speaker 1:

I will stop my story for now, but please join me next time when I continue with my story in part 4. But before we go, if you would like to know more about this ever-present God that I've been talking about, this God that is everywhere at the same time, this God that is omniscient, this God that can be a part of your life and is a part, maybe is a part of your life and you're just not aware of it.
